This year, we take each month to focus on one of the character traits from Galatians 5:
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Against such there is no law.”Galatians 5:22-23
Each month, we emphasize that fruit in chapel, in classrooms, and each teacher will be selecting a student for recognition that they feel exemplified that trait in specific ways during the month.
Our focus for September is love, which really sets the foundation for all the other fruits. It’s clear in the Bible that love (loving God, loving others) is the foundation of everything else in scripture. In chapel, we emphasized that Jesus says this foundation forms the basis for every commandment. For example, if we love someone, we do not steal from them. If we love someone, we do not lie or do them harm. If we love God, we keep His commandments.
“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”Jesus (John 13:34-35)
When we asked the students how we can show love, here were some of their reponses:
“Love Jesus, and Love God.”
“Be respectful to my teacher.”
“Help others when they fall down.”
“Share and be friends with everyone.”
“Listen to and obey my parents and teachers.”
Those are some pretty good responses, and we’ll check in with them again at the end of the month for more when we recognize specific students during assembly/chapel for their display of character.
