In December of 1994, Cascade Business News wrote an article proclaiming:
“Parents looking for an alternative to public schooling now have another choice in Central Oregon.”

1994-2015: A Legacy That Grew To Impact Hundreds
Founded in May 1994, Crook County Christian School launched in September of that year with approximately 50 students. By December, our school had grown to 66 students. When school ended in May, there would be 84 registered students for the Fall Semester of 1995. Over the course of the next 17 years, our school would go on to provide an alternative option and quality education for hundreds of Central Oregon students and their families before closing its doors in 2015.

September 2022: Crook County Christian School Reopens
Fast forward to 2022, and Crook County Christian School was replanted and reopened with approximately 50 students. By mid-year, we were over 60 students, and by year end we had registered 80+ students for the Fall of 2023. Not only did 2022 bear a remarkable similarity to 1994 in enrollment, it was also an incredible year of seeing God’s favor at every turn just like our founding year. As we head into Fall, our expectations couldn’t be higher for what God is going to do next!
Unprecedented Re-enrollment
Flashback to 1995, and by the time September arrived, Crook County Christian School enrolled 120 students and the First Assembly of God church board began formulating plans for a new school building to house the growth. If enrollment trends hold true to form, we are looking forward to seeing a similar growth pattern as the quality of our program and the community relationship developed with our families has led to unprecedented retention rates and a 100% re-enrollment of our existing elementary families as well as a record percentage of preschool families enrolling for Kindergarten. The good news? We have an amazing campus with wonderful and remodeled buildings and classrooms ready to accommodate any future growth.
More Than Just an Alternative
God’s incredible provision allowed us to not only return to providing students and families with a high quality education, but we were able to do things we’ve never done before. While test scores were down again nationwide, our students defied those trends and performed well, with the majority of our students scoring higher than their peers across the board. That’s not just an anomaly, it’s a result of a concerted effort by our admin team to hire incredible staff, keep class sizes small, and to push for excellence in everything we do. We aren’t aiming to provide an alternative option, we want to be the BEST option for our students and families.
About the Legacy Project
The Legacy Project is taking the time to honor our past, while planning for our future. Crook County Christian School exists today because of the legacy of those who have gone before us. We are eternally grateful for the faithfulness of Sue Uptain-Gillham (founding principal), Duane Jordan (founding pastor), and the First Assembly church board and congregation for answering God’s call in May of 1994 and being faithful to the heavenly vision. We continue to build on that legacy by faith and God continues to provide more than we could ask or think! God is so good.
