Crook County Christian School had the privilege of debuting its newly remodeled library for our elementary and middle school students while hosting this past week’s Prineville Chamber Perk Event. Dozens of chamber members and staff joined in as we celebrated the debut of our newly remodeled library and middle school classrooms.
A New Library to Support Our Accelerated Reading Initiative
Last summer, we purchased nearly 3000 books for use with the Accelerated Reader program (which we launched this past January). Our newly remodeled library is setup to specifically support this outstanding program. Books are organized by reading “level” so students can quickly identify books that are within the recommended reading target provided by the Accelerated Reader software that is customized to their individual reading level.
As we continue to grow our library, more books can be added and organized according to reading level(s). We have had several key volunteers who have helped us prepare the library including organizing all our books according to A.R. reading level.
Next Steps
While we have a few more minor updates to make before school starts in September, the library is fully functional and ready to use. Additionally, we will be adding reading tables and an additional computer for students to take Accelerated Reader quizzes during class trips to the library. Students also have computers in their class for taking A.R. quizzes.
We also have a few more bean bags for our reading corner, and a wall display with a map of the USA in addition to framed copies of the Declaration of Independence and Constitution.
Last but not least, we are also procuring an electronic library management system to help facilitate inventory management, checkout, and giving students and teachers quick access to find books of interest to them.
We are super excited to have a beautiful, fun and inviting space for students and classes to come and take advantage of as we step into September.
